Cuban Fly

What's a Cuban Fly?

Steve Davenport uses his homemade Cuban Fly on the South Holston with great results.

He reports it is part Steve's Illegal, part Island Park Special......Steve's Illegal - Island Park.....Illegal Island.....what's an Illegal Island?....Cuba, obviously!

Here's the recipe:

Hook: #14 Standard wet fly hook (Mustad, Tiemco, Daiichi, whatever your favorite is)
Bead:
Red Rochaille Bead
Thread:
Olive 8/0 Uni
Weight:
5 to 10 wraps lead wire (or your favorite substitute)
Tail:
5 to 8 wood duck flank fibers
Body:
Peacock Herl
Hackle:
Brown dry fly hackle, palmered through the body

At Tenn'Clave VII it accounted for well over 24 fish and many more takes in a two-hour period.
